The UpClim project is implemented in the framework of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) Call “Basic research Financing (Horizontal support of all Sciences)” under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” funded by the European Union –NextGeneration EU (H.F.R.I. Project Number: 014696).
This project contributes to the ongoing regional climate activities of CMIP6/EURO-CORDEX and dedicated CORDEX Flagship Pilot Studies, operating under the auspices of the World Climate Research Project. Additional simulations investigate the sensitivity of aerosol and urban parameterizatins on regional climate.
Special focus is on the urban climate of Paris. The urban parameterizations of the regional climate model WRF are informed by very high resolution Earth Observation data. Information on the thermal and morphological characteristics of the city are derived from satellite Earth Observations. Urban parameterizations, including the detailed representation of buildings, paved surfaces and urban vegetation, the surface albedo and emissivity etc., are derived from synergies of satellite data.
Our regional climate simulations are performed with the regional climate model WRF, as parameterized for the Balanced Ensemble Design Matrix of EURO-CORDEX.

On 29/1/2025 our project results on urban climate were disseminated at the EURO-CORDEX General Assembly @GERICS-Hamburg.
